Organised by the JEC Group (Paris / France; www.jeccomposites.com), the tenth edition of the annual Asia-Pacific composites trade fair "JEC Asia" will take place from 1-3 November 2017 in Seoul / South Korea. JEC Asia was launched in 2008 in Singapore, with the JEC Group setting up offices in Singapore in 2016.
According to the group, Asia is a booming market for composite materials. The region accounted for 43% of the global composites market at EUR 34.8 bn in 2016, compared to EUR 18 bn in 2011 – a 93% increase over the six-year period. The two main user markets in Asia are consumer goods (30% of total volume) and E&E (27% of total volume).
JEC Group president and CEO Frederique Mutel says South Korea has the benefit of "a positive synergy from the 'golden triangle' that is formed by the government authorities with research & industry and material science & techniques." After signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the carbon cluster in the Jeonju region in 2014, JEC also signed an MoU with the municipality of Seoul in February 2017. At a press conference in Seoul in July 2017, French ambassador Fabien Penone said JEC Asia 2017 is the first French industrial trade fair to be organised in Seoul.
