Fourth “Kenya Plast” to take place in Nairobi in June 2016 / Gateway to East Africa / Regional polymer consumption rising by double-digits
The fourth edition of “Kenya Plast” (www.kenyaplast.in) will take place in Nairobi / Kenya from 8-10 June 2016. The fair is a gateway to the East African market, organiser Enterprising Fairs (Mumbai / India; www.enterprisingfairs.in) says, adding that all countries in the region are launching major policy initiatives to raise plastics production, reduce imports and lift their export share.
Polymer consumption in East Africa stood at about 1.15m t in 2013, the event organiser says, adding that the region has about 1,500 plastics processors, but no raw material producers. As a result, it is 100% dependent on imports. There is also no local plastics machinery production. This means that foreign players have a lot to gain in these markets, which have a projected growth rate of 18-23%.
Enterprising Fairs expects about 200 exhibitors at “Kenya Plast”, covering the entire value chain, from raw materials to finished product. Visitor numbers are pegged at about 2,000. The fair enjoys the support of a number of regional associations including the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce & Industry (Nairobi / Kenya; www.kenyachamber.or.ke), the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (Nairobi; www.kam.co.ke), the Confederation of Tanzania Industries (Dar es Salaam / Tanzania; www.cti.co.tz), the Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (Dar es Salaam; www.tccia.com) and the Uganda Association of Manufacturers (Kampala / Uganda; www.uma.or.ug).
