Attendance plummets at "IPF Japan" in Tokyo / Multiple issues blamed / Many Japanese activities in Thailand
Multiple local and global issues are being cited in the fall in attendance at Japan’s “International Plastics Fair” (JPF) held from 25-29 October 2011 in Tokyo. The organiser, International Plastic Fair Association (www.ipfjapan.jp/english) nevertheless declared the event a success, despite a decline of more than a third to around 43,700 visitors, compared with 66,642 in 2008. The number of exhibitors also declined, to 751 companies from 993 three years ago.

Blame for the setback appeared to lie in the perspective of the respective commentator. While the fair association pointed to flooding of Japanese automotive and electronics plants in Thailand that kept executives busy elsewhere, according to a report by "Plastics News" some exhibitors were said to be unhappy about the change in dates to only include one weekend day, apparently one of the most popular days with plastics converters.
