“Plastivision Arabia" and “ArabMold” 2012 / New trade shows for the Middle East market / Focus on downstream activities
A new double-decker plastics trade exhibition, “Plastivision Arabia” in conjunction with “ArabiaMold”, has been launched in recognition of the increasing importance of the Middle East as a key location for polymer production and processing. The premier edition is to be held 14-17 May 2012 at the Expo Centre Sharjah (www.expo-centre.ae/en) in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (UAE). Cooperation partners are All India Plastics Manufacturers Association (AIPMA, Mumbai; www.aipma.net), organiser of the triennial “Plastvision India”, and Demat (Frankfurt / Germany; www.demat.com), organiser of “EuroMold”.

At a press conference, Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, director-general of Expo Centre Sharjah, said the event will provide “a comprehensive platform for raw materials, primary processing, auxiliary equipment, and services.” As the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states evolve from an oil-based to an industrial economy, the focus of the regional plastics industry is shifting downstream and governments are eager to attract more processing companies, the organisers add. According to forecasts, plastics production in the GCC will jump around 46% from around 105m t/y in 2010 to 155m t/y by 2015.
