EXXONMOBIL
Virtual company for packaging / “Time to Market” project with Saueressig and SIT
A new internet-based project for production, distribution and promotion of packaging for fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) has been developed by ExxonMobil Chemical Films Europe (L-1445 Luxembourg; www.exxonmobilchemical.com). The aim of the “time to market” project is the integration of all players in the value chain to generate a service level that would be impossible for one company alone.
According to the films producer, the systems developed will enable the packaging industry and FMCG manufacturers to eliminate waste, improve logistics and save costs. Plans call for all of the participating companies to be linked in a “real time” network. Artwork, pre-press and printing will be integrated into one digital workflow, providing reliable colour matching and mock-up production. The packaging will be simulated and viewed in 3D.
ExxonMobil´s partners in the project, now in its pilot run and due to be completed in 2003, are Germany´s Saueressig (D-48691Vreden; www.saueressig.de), a market leader in pre-press and cylinder engraving, and SIT (Faetano, 47896 Repubblica de San Marino; www.sit.com), a converter with rotogravure printing capabilities, in-line and off-line lamination and in-house graphic design. Saueressig already is well advanced in providing such “e-services” as workflow management and order tracking. SIT´s role is to guarantee design colour consistency. Other companies in the packaging supply chain are expected to join the network in its implementation phase.
