Production capacity expansion for INA-based plasticisers in Germany

German speciality chemicals and plastics producer Evonik (Essen; www.evonik.com) has announced the expansion of production capacities for its Elatur CH and Elatur DINCD isononanal (INA)-based plasticisers for PVC at its industrial organic chemicals subsidiary, Evonik Oxeno. A company spokesperson did not provide information on the projected annual capacity or an estimated start-up date in response to a Plasteurope.com query.

The capacity expansions will be integrated into the existing network of C4 plants in Marl and are being undertaken to meet rising demand, the company said, though it did not specify from which customer industries this growth is expected.
While both are low-viscosity plasticisers with low-temperature flexibility, Elatur CH is suitable for applications such as vinyl wallpaper, vinyl flooring, and medical products, while Elatur DINCD is suitable for demanding exterior and interior applications such as textile fabrics, roofing membranes, floor coverings, paints, coatings, adhesives, and sealants due to high UV resistance and low volatility.

Evonik said Elatur CH and Elatur DINCD can be produced and supplied using mass-balance methods from biobased, bio-circular, or circular raw materials.
