EVONIK
Implant-grade PEEK filament for medical applications in 3D printing
Speciality chemicals producer Evonik (Essen / Germany; www.evonik.com) has launched a 3D-printable polyether-ether-ketone (PEEK) filament as an implant-grade material for medical applications. This release sets new standards for developing custom-made plastic implants, which can now be created using additive manufacturing processes that meet the requirements of ASTM F2026 – the standard specification for PEEK polymers for surgical implant applications.

The product, branded as “Vestakeep i4 3DF”, is based on “Vestakeep i4 G”, a highly viscous, high-performance polymer from Evonik. It features biocompatibility, biostability, x-ray transparency and easy handling. After production under cleanroom conditions, it undergoes stringent quality management standards for medical materials. They can be used, for example, in orthopaedics and maxillofacial surgery.

The natural-coloured filament has a diameter of 1.75 mm. It is wound on 250 g or 500 g spools suitable for direct use in standard fused-filament printers for PEEK materials.
