Scratchproof coating, PPSU, PA 12 and processing aids for K 2007
At K 2007, Evonik Degussa (Essen / Germany; www.degussa.de), formerly Degussa, will showcase a whole series of new products for the polymers and additives segments.
"Degalan 40 F" is a PVC flow promoter used to lower foam densities and achieve a fine-cell foam structure.
"Degalan 75 F" is a processing auxiliary with an external slip effect for PVC foam and PVC film applications to significantly reduce the tendency to stick to hot metal surfaces such as nozzles and rollers.
"Tegomer H-Si 6440 P" can be used both as a processing aid in PA and PBT and to improve the properties of end-products. It enhances the melt flow and scratch resistance of PP/talc mixtures.
"Tegosorb P.Y. 88" is an auxiliary for the absorption of odours caused by pigments.
The new pigment blacks for liquid systems, which the company markets under the name "Nerox", allow a higher pigment black concentration in plasticised PVC, PU precursors and UP resins.
"Vestamid LX 9020" is a UV and aging-resistant PA 12 that reduces the influence of air and seawater, and is used in supply lines for oil production.
The non-combustible, breakproof, heat-resistant sheets of "Europlex" polyphenylsulphone (PPSU) have been tested by leading manufacturers of fire fighting helmets and approved for the production of visors. According to Evonik Degussa, the material has been included in the relevant international standard for firefighting equipment, and thus replaces the polycarbonate that has been predominantly used to date.
In a new single-step process, moulded parts of PMMA moulding compounds (Plexiglas) produced by injection-compression moulding are coated with an acrylate-based liquid reactive system while still in the mould. The surface cures in the mould sufficiently for the part to be easily demoulded. After removal, curing is completed by UV radiation. The new process for the scratchproof coating of plastic parts was developed in conjunction with KraussMaffei (Munich / Germany; www.krauss-maffei.de) and will be demonstrated on the machine manufacturer's exhibition stand.
