Austrian foam producer expands Polish facility
At its Polish foaming site in Zgierz, Austrian PUR foam producer Eurofoam (Vienna; www.eurofoam.eu) has begun construction of a long-block warehouse. The 50:50 joint venture, which was founded in 1992 between PUR foam specialists Recticel (Brussels / Belgium; www.recticel.com) and the Greiner Group (Kremsmünster / Austria; www.greiner.at), provided no details regarding the project's investment costs. The 4.000 m² fully automised facility is designed to store 30 and 60 m long-blocks of PUR foam and is slated to begin operations in the spring of 2014.

Located in central Poland, the Zgierz site produces 33,000 t/y of flexible polyurethane foam in 2012, making it the largest of its kind in Europe, according to the Vienna-based company. A Eurofoam spokeswoman told Plasteurope.com the total production capacity of the company, which focuses on eastern and south-eastern European markets, is "well over 100,000 t/y". Eurofoam is comprised of 36 foaming and foam-converting companies in 12 European countries. In addition to Poland, the company also has production facilities in Austrian and Germany (two each) as well as Hungary and Romania. With 1,689 employees, the company recorded net revenues of EUR 373m.
