EUROFOAM
Streamlining German flexible foam operations / Bexbach facility to close / 88 employees affected
By the end of June 2012, Eurofoam (Vienna / Austria; www.euro-foam.com) – a 50:50 joint venture between Belgian polyurethane foam specialist Recticel (Brussels; www.recticel.com) and Austrian plastics converter Greiner Group (Kremsmünster; www.greiner.at) – is to close its foam production and converting unit in Bexbach / Germany. The measure will affect 88 employees.
Eurofoam justified the streamlining of its German flexible foam operations by saying: “The ongoing stagnation of the German foam market for mattress and upholstery industry as well as the increasing pressure on margins made it necessary to adjust the overall production capacity and improve the cost base.” Bexbach’s existing business is to be transferred not only to Eurofoam sites within Germany but also outside the country.
The group added that it will continue to play an active role in the German market from its remaining production sites in Troisdorf, Ebersbach, Burkhardtsdorf and Dörfles-Esbach, as well as its sales centre in Wiesbaden.
