Purchase of Turkish plastics components specialist Mesan Kilit / Expansion of UK components facility complete
Essentra (Milton Keynes / United Kingdom; www.filtrona.com) – the former Filtrona – see Plasteurope.com of 13.06.2013 – has acquired 100% of Turkish-based Mesan Kilit (Istanbul; www.mesanlocks.com). No financial details have been disclosed. According to the UK specialty supplier of plastics, fibre and foam products, Mesan Kilit will be aligned under the “Component & Protection Solutions“ division, which has a primary focus on the manufacture of plastic safety products such as caps and closures. Mesan manufactures and distributes a variety of locks, hinges and hardware accessories for a range of end-markets, which its new owner says are not only “attractive”, but are also expected to be “immediately earnings enhancing” for Essentra. A spokesperson for the company told Plasteurope.com plastic components used in the assorted products are produced at a facility in Istanbul.

“The acquisition is a compelling strategic fit for Essentra and is consistent with the company’s Vision 2015 objective of complementing balanced profitable organic growth with value-adding transactions. Mesan significantly enhances our offering in the growing hardware segment,” commented Colin Day, CEO at Essentra. He also added the purchase not only provides entry into the Turkish market as well as a number of other fast-growing export markets for his company’s components business, but it also is a platform for the geographic expansion of other activities in the region.

Mesan is active in a number of markets including electricity and power distribution, telecoms, industrial, IT and transportation and its products are destined for 75 countries in most regions of the world. In 2012, Mesan generated revenue of USD 19.7m, with a 3-year compound annual revenue growth rate of more than 20%.

In addition to its Turkish acquisition, Essentra has also recently opened a new purpose-built distribution centre, expanding its main European components facility in Kidlington, outside of Oxford. With a total investment of more than GBP 7m (roughly EUR 8.5m), the 3,500 m² site provides space for continuing the rapid expansion of product range as well as allowing the division to enhance its next-day delivery offering throughout its global supply chain network.

Essentra’s components business is a leading manufacturer and distributor of plastic injection moulded, vinyl dip moulded and metal items. The company’s global network counts 32 countries and includes roughly 5,500 employees, 42 manufacturing facilities as well as 64 sales and distribution operations for the manufacture and distribution of filters, packaging products, customised fluid handling components as well as furniture accessories.
