EPS INSULATION
Penoplex plans 90% market share / Berstorff machines increase throughput to 1,000 kg/h
Russia´s leading manufacturer of extruded polystyrene (EPS) insulation board, Penoplex (Kirishi, St Petersburg; www.penoplex.ru), is investing in several ZE/KE Schaumtandex lines from Berstorff (Hannover / Germany; www.berstorff.com) as part of a long-term objective to increase its market share to 90%, from the existing 60%. The combination of twin- and single-screw extruders will increase its annual production capacity to 800 000 m³.

The first two Berstorff lines have recently been commissioned in the new Penoplex production facility in Perm, Russia. The lines have a throughput capacity of over 1,000 kg/h. The installation also includes downstream equipment such as in-line board processing, recycling and packaging units. Following the results of the Perm installation, Penoplex has ordered a third Berstorff Schaumtandex line with a capacity of 400 kg/h, which will be installed at its headquarters in Kirishi.

Penoplex insulating board is sold across Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus. Due to the climatic conditions in these regions, where permafrost is common, EPS insulation board is required across a wide range of applications. In temperate zones it is used mainly as insulation material for cellar walls and floor panels in the building industry. However, it also serves as reinforcing and insulating material for roads, public squares, airport runways and railway systems.
