ENSINGER
Expansion of injection moulding and machining capacity / New plant in Ergenzingen / Production facility in China
Ensinger (Nufringen / Germany; www.ensinger-online.com) is investing around EUR 20m in a new injection moulding facility in Ergenzingen / Germany, 25 km from its headquarters. At the same time, the company is increasing capacity for compounds in Nufringen and casting and machining capacity in Cham / Germany. Total investment will be EUR 53m.
The first concrete pillars for the new section of a construction materials facility in Cham were erected in October 2007. This 16,000 m² extension costing EUR 19m comprises a fully automated high-bay warehouse and additional production lines on two levels. Completion is scheduled for summer 2008. In future, the Cham site will be divided among the casting, machining and building materials divisions.
A total of 45 injection moulding machines will be relocated from Nufringen to Ergenzingen, where they will form the heart of the new production plant. Ensinger plans to move its entire injection moulding operation to this site in several steps to meet increased demand, principally from the automotive sector. Around 130 employees – most of which already work for Ensinger in Nufringen – will work at the new site when it begins operating. Construction work is expected to start in 2008.
The third element in the company's expansion plans focuses on expanding the relatively new compounds division. Capacity is to be expanded at a cost of some EUR 14m before the injection moulding plant in Ergenzingen is erected to meet the increased demand for raw materials. The groundbreaking ceremony was held last November and work is progressing on the building, which will be 80 m wide, 100 m long and just over 17 m high. With a total area of around 7,000 m², 2,600 m² will be dedicated to compounding with 4,300 m² for a new warehouse for raw materials. Three new production lines and a pilot plant came into service in January 2008 to meet the higher demand. Completion of the next phase is planned for end-2008. The new building will provide space for four additional production lines.
Ensinger has also been producing in China since November 2007. Headed by Gary Davies, Ensinger Engineering Plastics (Shanghai / China) focuses on machining of semi-finished products made from high-temperature and construction plastics.
