Following a EUR 8m expansion and modernisation at its plant in Pyungtaek / South Korea, Austrian injection moulding machinery manufacturer Engel (Schwertberg; www.engelglobal.com) has almost doubled its output of injection moulding machines from the facility to around 1,200 machines annually. The company announced the expansion in 2012 – see Plasteurope.com of 30.04.2012.
Engel has been producing small- and medium-sized machines in the clamping force range of 25 t to 400 t in Korea since 2001, with 30% of the machines remaining in the domestic market and 70% exported to China and other Asian nations. The company said it recently succeeded in steadily raising its market share in Asia. In fiscal year 2011/2012 the figure approached 10% for the first time as an Asian sales record of EUR 125m was achieved.
Robert Bodingbauer, managing director of Engel Machinery Korea, said: “Thanks to our decentralised production facility in Asia, we can offer clients in the region fast delivery times and guarantee to adapt our injection moulding machines and system solutions to the specific requirements of local markets. This ensures we have a major competitive advantage in Asia.”
