Ems-Grivory (Domat / Switzerland; www.emsgrivory.com) has developed a new polyamide suitable for under-bonnet applications. "Grilon TSG W", a polymer alloy of PA 6 and PA 6.6, has been designed for applications with high operating temperatures, and can withstand permanent working temperatures of up to 150 °C and short-term temperature peaks of up to 210 °C.
Ems-Grivory says the product offers excellent processability thanks to low processing temperatures and a wider processing window compared with PA 6.6. Grilon TSG W is suitable for the manufacture of strongly stressed parts in under-bonnet applications and has excellent resistance against conventional automotive media, including engine oil, cooling water and petrol, it adds. Other applications include oil sumps, components in air-intake systems and housings for turbo-charged air coolers.
