New PA 12 products approved for drinking water applications
"Grilamid" LV- 5H WA and "Grilamid" LV-3H WA PA 12 grades from Ems-Grivory (Domat / Switzerland; www.emsgrivory.com), the engineering plastics division of the Ems Group (www.ems-group.com), have been granted wide-ranging approval for water contact applications. Grilamid WA products are particularly suitable for the production of plastic parts for which specific approval for drinking water applications is specified, Ems-Grivory says. The products combine stiffness, toughness and elongation at break, making them suitable as substitutes for increasingly expensive brass alloys in sanitary applications.

The manufacturer says that the material has good long-term characteristics in applications with water contact thanks to its low water absorption and good chemical resistance, both of which are typical properties of PA 12. Alongside dimensional stability, stress cracking resistance and hydrolysis resistance, the material also has a wide processing window compared with high-performance polymers. Grilamid is available with 30 and 50% by weight glass fibre reinforcement in natural and black colours. Customised colours are also available.
