The drinks cartons containing a coating of certified renewable PE that Norwegian packaging group Elopak (Skøyen; www.elopak.com) plans to launch shortly (see Plasteurope.com of 12.12.2014) will use Sabic’s (Riyadh / Saudi Arabia; www.sabic.com) "LDPE nExCoat5" renewable polyethylene. The Saudi Arabian company first launched its renewable polyolefin range, made from waste fats and oils, last year (see Plasteurope.com of 22.05.2014).
Elopak’s “Pure-Pak” carton “is the renewable choice for packaging of beverages, and with renewable polymers from Sabic, we are able to supply packaging which is virtually 100% renewable,” Elopak corporate environment director Kristian Hall said.
The range will be made available in shops across northern Europe “shortly”, the two companies said.
