Lighting specialist Elkamet (Biedenkopf / Germany; www.elkamet.com) has announced it will use polycarbonate resins from Sabic (Riyadh / Saudi Arabia; www.sabic.com) in a range of its products. Sabic will supply the German firm with its “Lexan” resin, which is based on a certifiable renewed feedstock and is claimed to potentially result in a 61% reduction in carbon footprint and a lower fossil depletion of up to 35%.
Elkamet makes a range of lighting products for the automotive and rail industries, illuminated signs and general lighting purposes. It also manufactures extruded and rotomoulded products for the automotive industry.
Lukas Platt, head of sales at the lighting supplier, said that by producing diffusors and covers with renewable resources, lighting manufacturers could make a huge sustainability impact. Using Sabic’s PC based on certified renewable feedstock meant “customers would not have to make a compromise between sustainability and material properties,” he added.
