ELIX POLYMERS
ABS grades with 100% sustainable feedstock content
Spanish ABS manufacturer Elix Polymers (Tarragona; www.elix-polymers.com) said it is possible to produce chemically recycled products with up to 100% sustainable feedstocks, which are now available in the portfolio of German distributor K.D. Feddersen (Hamburg; www.kdfeddersen.com).

This applies to certain grades in its E-Loop portfolio, including ABS and two ABS/PC blends. The company has also added two PC/ABS blends to its E-Loop portfolio.
The possibility arises because all three monomers, acrylonitrile, butadiene, and styrene, can be replaced, the company said. Depending on the mix of monomers, carbon emissions can be reduced by more than 90% compared with virgin grades, it noted.
Elix Polymers said it is possible to combine different feedstocks since the three monomers are sourced from fossil fuel-based feedstocks, chemically recycled post-consumer waste, and bio-based feedstocks.
The company also announced that all products in its portfolio can be produced as chemically recycled grades. The material properties remain the same and can be used in applications with strict requirements without the need for new material approvals.
The company previously announced plans to extend its sustainable product portfolio with grades containing varying recycled content.
In 2021, Elix Polymers consolidated its circular economy activities under the E-Loop brand name. These products are manufactured with sustainable feedstocks certified according to ISCC Plus and the mass balance model, and include circular and bio-based materials and renewables, according to Elix Polymers.
