Global electronics market grows by 4% in 2013 to EUR 3.6 trillion / Exports by German E&E companies down
Recent figures released by the German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (ZVEI, Frankfurt; www.zvei.org) estimate that the global market for electrical engineering and electronics products grew by 4% last year to EUR 3,592 bn. The strongest growth of 6% occurred in Asia, where the market now stands at EUR 2,063 bn, and accounts for 57% of the global total. The American E&E market increased by 4% in 2013 to EUR 758 bn, while the European market stagnated at EUR 641 bn. That means the American market now stands for 21% of the global total, while Europe only accounts for 18%.
ZVEI predicts that the global E&E market will grow by 6% each year in both 2014 and 2015, with Asia once again expected to see the highest growth rates of 7% in 2014 and 8% in 2015. By comparison, the anticipated growth rates of 5-6% each year mean the American market will increase at the same pace as the overall global trend. With an estimated growth of 3% this year and 4% in 2015, the European market will continue to lag behind, ZVEI predicts.
German E&E exports comparatively weak in 2013
Exports by the German electronics industry – the world’s fifth largest E&E producer – slowed down towards the end of 2013. ZVEI’s Andreas Gontermann said that following two months of consecutive growth, November 2013 export volumes fell to EUR 13.4 bn, a 2.5% year-on-year decline.
The total export volume of the German E&E sector amounted to EUR 146 bn in the period from January to November last year – down 1.4% over the same period in 2012. Taking the whole year into account, ZVEI expects export levels to have declined by 1% year-on-year to a total of EUR 158 bn.
