New PE plant to start up in Alexandria in 2015 / Engineering contract awarded to Toyo and ENPPI / Part of national Petrochemicals Master Plan
Japan’s Toyo Engineering (Tokyo; www.toyo-eng.co.jp) has landed a USD 400m lump-sum turnkey contract for the EPC and commissioning of a 400,000 t/y polyethylene plant in Egypt. Once operational in early 2015, the plant, which the Japanese company will build together with Egypt’s Engineering for the Petroleum & Process Industries (ENPPI, Cairo; www.enppi.com), will be run as part of the Egyptian Ethylene and Derivatives Company’s (Ethydco) new petrochemical hub in Alexandria.
This is the sixth project the Japanese company is executing in the North African country, including a 460,000 t/y ethylene as well as a 20,000 t/y butadiene facility – both of which Ethydco, a wholly owned subsidiary of Egyptian Petrochemical Holding (Echem, Nasar City / Egypt; www.echem-eg.com) plans to commission in early 2015 as well. The project is part of Egypt’s Petrochemicals Master Plan, first adopted in 2001.
Under the terms of the contract, Toyo Engineering will lead the project’s execution, including project management, basic engineering and the procurement of key equipment. ENPPI in turn will oversee joint project management, some aspects of basic engineering as well as the procurement of other equipment and materials.
