US supplier Eastman (Kingsport, Tennessee; www.eastman.com) said it has signed an initial agreement with Interzero (Berlin; www.interzero.de) for the delivery of difficult-to-recycle plastic waste to its site in Le Havre, France when the chemical recycling plant to be built there starts operations in 2025 (see Plasteurope.com of 02.05.2022).

Subsidiary Interzero Plastics Recycling is to supply the facility with up to 20,000 t/y of PET household packaging refuse. Eastman plans to use the Le Havre plant to make transparent PET recyclate from coloured and opaque PET waste that cannot be mechanically recycled.

Eastman CCO Brad Lich said the collaboration is a milestone in supplying the line, but he emphasised that the quantity represents only “a portion of the raw materials required for operations.” Eastman declined to tell Plasteurope.com whether further agreements had already been concluded or were under discussion.
