Chemical group DuPont (Wilmington, Delaware / USA; www.dupont.com) has announced the consolidation of its range of silicone solutions for medical and pharmaceutical applications under the new brand name “Liveo". Based on the terms “live” and “to be alive”, the name is intended to stand for next-generation health solutions that contribute to the patient’s well-being.
“The new brand is derived from ‘Dow Corning’, the pioneer of silicone-based medical and pharmaceutical products”, Marketing Manager Jennifer Gemo Mathis said. She explained that the change involves more than a new name, namely a clear commitment to the healthcare sector based on more than 70 years of know-how in the fields of innovation, regulation, production and application.
Products traditionally marketed under the brand names “Dow Corning” and “Silastic” will be retained unchanged, including the packaging. This includes silicone tubing and overmoulded assemblies for single-use systems, medical adhesives for advanced wound care products and wearables as well as silicone elastomers for special medical devices, emulsions and other uses.
These products will still be manufactured at the DuPont Healthcare Industries Materials Site (HIMS) in Hemlock / Michigan (USA). The plant is certified to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14000, and is registered and authorised as a production site with the US Food and Drug Authority FDA (www.fda.gov). Apart from that, it applies Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
“Liveo” is part of DuPont’s “Transportation & Industrial” business group, which recently took a non-cash impairment charge of nearly USD 2.5 bn (see Plasteurope.com of 03.08.2020). After the DowDuPont split in summer 2019 (see Plasteurope.com of 13.06.2019), DuPont struggled as an independent company and reported disappointing results, which were followed by consequences for top management (see Plasteurope.com of 21.02.2020).
