US chemicals producer DuPont (Wilmington, Delaware; www.dupont.com) has said that it is to invest USD 100m in China to increase production capacity and development capabilities for its “Teflon” brand PTFE. The company’s PTFE production in Shenzhen is to move to Changshu, where new production lines based on advanced technologies are to be installed. A non-stick coating R&D laboratory is to be built in Shanghai by the end of 2015.
Thierry Vanlancker, DuPont Applied Chemistry fluorine products division president, said that the initiatives will enable the company to continue to operate world-class manufacturing and R&D facilities to meet the needs of the Chinese and other fast-growing markets in Asia.
The non-stick coating production line at Changshu is scheduled to become operational in early 2016. Until then, production will continue at Shenzhen to ensure a smooth transition, the company said.
