New polymers introduced for healthcare applications
DuPont (Wilmington, Delaware / USA; www.dupont.com) has introduced new engineering polymers for use in healthcare products and equipment. The US company said the portfolio now includes “Hytrel” TPC-ET, “Delrin” POM, “Zytel” nylon, “Crastin” PBT and “Zenite” LCP.

Potential uses for Hytrel TPC-ET include soft touch/grip surfaces, valves, seals, springs and shock absorbers in a range of medical products and equipment, said John Gavenonis, global healthcare manager for DuPont Performance Polymers. Hytrel also provides more resistance to disinfectants and elevated temperatures than some alternative TPEs and, unlike flexible PVC, it contains no plasticisers, DuPont said.

All the materials are available globally, and can be processed using injection moulding, extrusion or film, the company added.
