New antistatic additives for packaging / Non-yellowing protection for cosmetics and industrial goods
DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers (Wilmington, Delaware / USA; www.dupont.com) has launched two new grades of its “Entira” permanent antistatic additives. It says "Entira Antistat SD 100" and "Entira Antistat SD 500" allow permanent antistatic dissipation and non-yellowing protection for a variety of packaging requirements, from cosmetics to industrial goods.

The additives designed for use with polyolefins and other polymers are integrated directly into the product, so that unlike antistatic agents that are concentrated on the product surface, they cannot wear off due to rubbing, water or age, DuPont adds. They also prevent yellowing due to age, can be used in a discrete layer without migrating to other layers and help to minimise die build-up.

The US group says that, when used with polyolefins, Entira Antistat “is currently the only permanent additive on the market to deliver both antistatic properties and transparency in the final product.” Entira Antistat SD 100 can be used in electronics packaging to reduce sparks and is also approved for used with food. Entira Antistat 500 can be used at higher processing temperature conditions.
