Thermoplastic vulcanisates for corner automotive seals
DuPont (Wilmington, Delaware / USA; www.dupont.com) and ExxonMobil Chemical (Baytown, Texas / USA; www.exxonmobilchemical.com) have developed “Santoprene TPV B260” products, which are thermoplastic vulcanisates (TPVs) used for automotive corner mould seals. DuPont says Santoprene TPV B260 is based on formulations that replace ExxonMobil Chemical’s traditional organic slip additives with DuPont’s engineered silicone-based additives, and results in improved bonding to ethylene propylene diene monomer (EDPM) rubber substrates.

The company adds that this delivers better sliding properties for the opening and closing of doors and windows, better abrasion resistance to protect against damage from slammed doors as well as improved UV stability to prevent cracking and discolouration.
