Rapak (Rugby / UK; www.rapak.com), a plastic packaging operation owned by DS Smith Plastics (London / UK; www.dssmith.com), is installing a sixth production line for its "Bag-in-Box" packaging operation in Shumen / Bulgaria. The new equipment can produce the flexible bags of any size between 2-220 litres in metallised PET, EVOH, PA or other materials.
DS Smith said the benefits of Bag-in-Box packaging include an extended shelf life for the product, better storage efficiency, lower logistics costs, hygienic and convenient dispensing as well as a reduced environmental footprint compared to any other packaging option. The plant has been manufacturing flexible bags for Bag-in-Box in sizes ranging from 0.75-1,400 litres since 2005.
Recent product innovations from Rapak include an active scavenger bag that extends the shelf-life of Bag-in-Box wine and a monolayer bag for Bag-in-Box containers that preserves both the quality and appearance of hot-filled juice products.
