Increased capacity for high-temperature polyamides and thermoplastic copolyesters in the Netherlands
At its two Dutch sites at Emmen and Geleen, DSM Engineering Plastics (DSM-EP, Sittard / The Netherlands; www.dsm.com) is in the process of expanding its capacity for high-temperature polyamides and thermoplastic copolyesters (TPC). Part of the expansion was already finished in November, and completion of the remaining measures is scheduled for the end of 2018. DSM has not put a figure on the investment.
The expansion that has already been completed relates to 50% additional capacity for "Stanyl" (PA 4.6) and "ForTii" (PA 4T) materials in Geleen and the "EcoPaXX" (PA 4.10) brand at both sites. The company says the expansion has been prompted by "strong demand" for these polymers and compounds – first and foremost, from the consumer electronics and automotive engineering industries.
Currently in progress, according to Paresh Bhakta, vice president Global Operations at DSM-EP, are a 50% capacity expansion for the polyamide intermediate product 1,4-diaminobutane (DAB) in Geleen, and a 25% capacity expansion for "Arnitel" TPC in Emmen. These measures are to be completed by the end of 2018.
