Global life sciences and material sciences company Royal DSM (Heerlen / The Netherlands; www.dsm.com) has developed a high temperature resistant grade of its “Arnitel” thermoplastic copolyester elastomer for use in the production of flexible hot charge air ducts in turbocharged engines.
“Arnitel” HT allows system suppliers to produce the ducts in a single material in a single step process, replacing the standard practice of assembling separate elements in hard thermoplastics or metal and soft thermosetting rubbers. DSM said the material will provide producers with a significant improvement in process efficiency, cost reductions of up to 50% and a weight reduction of up to 40%.
