Extrusion coatings for special paper /
Pilot plant for new technology at Geleen
A new extrusion coatings plant with operating speeds of up to 1,100 m/min. has been developed by DSM (NL-6401 JH Heerlen), Felix Schoeller Holding (PO Box 3667, D-49026 Osnabrück) and ER-WE-PA Davis Standard GmbH (D-40699 Erkrath). DSM Polyethylenes is a leading producer of LDPE for extrusion coatings. Felix Schoeller produces special paper for the illustration sector and Davis Standard is an internationally known manufacturer of extrusion plant and equipment.
In October, the three-company cooperation team officially started up a new pilot plant at DSM´s Geleen site in the Netherlands. The test and development plant is capable of co-extruding up to four parallel layers. The weight per unit area of the substrate is adjustable to 15-300 g/m². A high speed winder was developed especially to produce high precision rolls of the heavy substrate. The companies are offering use of the pilot plant to other to other interested parties to pursue their own development work.
