DSM / MITSUBISHI
Swap of polyamide and polycarbonate businesses completed
It was just a matter of time. Following February’s signing of contracts – see Plasteurope.com of 03.03.2010 – Dutch chemicals group DSM (Sittard; www.dsm.com) has announced that it has wrapped up the acquisition of Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation’s (MCC, Tokyo / Japan; www.m-kagaku.co.jp) polyamide (“Novamid”) business, in exchange for DSM’s polycarbonate (“Xantar”) activities. The companies declined to comment on the financial details of the swap, saying only that both business units generated about EUR 90m in revenues annually.
As part of the swap, several key DSM employees will switch to MCC and vice versa. The deal also foresees the establishment of an MCC research and development unit at the Chemelot Research and Technology campus in Geleen / The Netherlands.
