Packaging: New plants in Europe and Asia
As part of the expansion of its operations worldwide, DRG Medical Packaging Ltd began production at a $ 50m extrusion facility in Bristol, UK, in June 1995. Operations from two UK sites will be consolidated at Bristol, which will employ 200 staff when fully operational. Also under its plans, DRG Medical Packaging opened a new printing facility in Singapore in September 1994, and in early 1995 it formed a joint venture for production of pouches, coated film and paper and thermoformable films, with the Brazilian company ITAP SA. Output of the latter will be supplied to South America for use in the medical and pharmaceutical sectors. Further production facilities are under consideration for Asia and Latin America.
On 1 June 1995, DRG's parent company, Bowater plc, changed its name to Rexam plc (114 Knightsbridge, GB-London SW1X 7NN). Its operating companies will also adopt new names: DRG Medical Packaging will be known as Rexam Medical Packaging Ltd (Winterbourne Road, Stoke Gifford, GB-Bristol BS12 6PT). PET sheet producer, Pacur, will become Rexam Extrusions. The producer of silicone coated papers and films, Release International, will be known as Rexam Release.
