Dow Chemical's (Horgen / Switzerland; www.dow.com) Packaging and Specialty Plastics business has teamed up with French packaging company PumpArt System (www.pumpart.com) to drive market development of PumpArt System’s airless dispensing technology. The companies said the partnership will help commercialise the technology internationally, as well as extending it into food and beverage applications.
The “Tubairless” technology is currently used mainly in cosmetic and pharmaceutical packaging to protect sensitive cream-based formulas from the adverse effects of outside air. The companies said it can minimise product waste as the tubes can dispense almost 100% of contents, compared with an evacuation rate of 75-80% for traditional tubes.
Xavier Sutty, CEO of PumpArt System, said the system has already proved popular with mid-size European cosmetics producers, thanks to enhanced preservation of ingredients and its ability to dispense product smoothly and accurately.
PumpArt System will use Dow’s Pack Studios Centre in Horgen with the aim of accelerating the commercialisation of the technology on a global scale and enabling extension into new products.
