Biaxially oriented film units / DEM 90m sales / Highest sales on overseas markets
DMT S.A. (BP 270, Savoie-Technolac, F-73375 Le Bourget du Lac), which was only founded in 1990 by its current owners, Darlet and Marchante, has emerged as one of the world's leading suppliers of plants for the production of biaxially oriented film. The company offers turnkey systems taking in the extruder plus slot die, the calender, the orientation section right up to the winder and the process engineering know-how. Plants are available for annual capacities of between 3,500 and 30,000 t. The production lines are designed to suit a broad range of potential applications, such as films for packaging and the manufacture of audio and video tapes, as well as film material and cable insulation. Approximately 50% of the plant engineering is specified for the production of BOPP film and approximately 40% for BOPET film. The remaining 10% is spread over PE, PC and other suitable polymers.
The current payroll of this French company, in which Reifenhäuser GmbH & Co Maschinenfabrik (Spicher Str. 46-48, D-53839 Troisdorf) has a 15% holding, stands at about 180, with just over half the staff engaged in production. Of the remaining 90 employees, no fewer than 20 are allocated to process control and automation. According to DMT, it is the only company operating in this specialist sector in France. Worldwide, there cannot be more than three competitors concentrating on this type of plant for biaxially oriented film. DMT achieved sales of some FRF 300m in 1996 (around DEM 90m), representing an increase of 150% over 1995. Some 95% of production goes to overseas markets.
