DAICEL POLYMER
New wood pulp-based bioplastics range / Flame-retardant grade in early 2013
A range of cellulose bioplastics, “Celblen EC”, produced from non-edible wood resources, has been developed and introduced by Daicel Polymer (Tokyo / Japan; www.daicelpolymer.com). The polymers are cellulose esters containing 40% to 50% plant-based materials derived from wood pulp.

Daicel said “Celblen EC” avoids potential problems of dimensional change or warpage after long-term storage, resulting from volatilisation of plasticisers, through the application of new plasticisers as well as formulation and compounding technologies. The materials are claimed to display improved mechanical properties, making them suitable for moulding. A general-purpose grade is now available, and a clear grade and flame-retardant grade will be introduced in early 2013.
