South Korean company to expand production of BOPP film / Andritz Biax asked to supply new production line in spring 2013
Conglomerate Daelim Industries (Seoul / South Korea; www.daelim.co.kr) is set to considerably expand its production of BOPP film at the Jeon-Ju site. The company has ordered a production line for five-layer BOPP film from equipment manufacturer Andritz (Graz / Austria; www.andritz.com). The line will be 8.7 metres wide and have an annual capacity of 38,600 t/y. Start-up is planned for spring 2013.
The traditional core business of Daelim Industries is the construction of houses, infrastructure facilities such as bridges, and especially large-scale plants (oil, petrochemicals, power plants). In the petrochemicals division, the Group operates, together with Hanwha, large cracker facilities with an annual output of nearly 2m t/y of C2 at the Yeosu site. Downstream, Daelim has three low-density polymerisation lines for PE in Yeosu and also shares a large PP production line with LyondellBasell as part of the jv PolyMirae. Since the end of the 1990s, the Group has also been producing BOPP film in Jeon-Ju, with a throughput reportedly in the order of 25,000 t/y.
The Austrian technology group Andritz has sales of more than EUR 4 bn and is a globally leading supplier of plants and services for the hydropower, pulp and paper, steel and other specialised industries. Andritz has been active in the stretching machine segment since the takeover of the then insolvent DMT Technology in spring 2010.
