CSI
Italy: Research and development on an industrial scale / "Technology counters"
One of the major centers for R&D in the plastics industry in Europe is Centro Sviluppo Settori (CSI, Viale Lombardia 20, I-20021 Bollate, MI). Following its separation from Montedipe in 1988, CSI is today an independent company with the aim of developing processes, designing components and carrying out tests and certifications for the plastics industry. Major areas of activity are the automotive industry, electrics and electronics, household apparatus and appliances, packaging, agriculture and building.

Equipment and installations of the departments for technology, design & engineering, physico-mechanic testing and for chemical/microbiologic measurements are most professional. This will mean that in the technological sector CSI is operating on an industrial scale, e.g. in compounding, extrusion, injection moulding, industrial and bottle blow moulding, rotational moulding, thermoforming, RIM and SMC or surface technology. Advanced CAE techniques for modelling, pre/post processing and calculation of components and processes are available. Installations of the test laboratories are just as complex, e.g. for dynamic testing of automotive parts, acoustic tests, flammability tests or microbiological measurements.

Resulting from all this, CSI is able to offer complete service from market analysis to the final proposal, including the definition of the optimal technical/economic solution down to the industrialization of production processes. In order to reduce distances to the customers and intensify contacts to smaller and mid-size companies, CSI will open "technology counters" in most regions in Italy and abroad. For Germany, CSI has established a co-operation with IPF Dr.-Ing. Peter Fischer Ingenieurbüro für Kunststoffe (In der Fuchskaule 17, D-53773 Hennef).
