Acquisition of Spanish unsaturated polyester resin plant / Capacity 20,000 t/y
The European UP resins manufacturer Cray Valley (Le Diamant 5, F-92970 Paris-La-Defense) has agreed to acquire the Spanish UP resins company Resinas Poliesteres SA (Reposa) (Juan Bravo, 3-B, 2a, E-28006 Madrid) from Rhone-Poulenc Quimica (Avda. Diagonal 640, E-08017 Barcelona) and Repsol Quimica (Paseo de la Castellana 278-280, E-28046 Madrid).
Reposa is Spain's largest producer of unsaturated polyester resins with a capacity at its plant in Miranda de Ebro near Burgos of 20,000 t/y and a turnover of FRF 150m. The acquisition will strengthen Cray Valley's position as one of Europe's leading producers of UP resins, which are widely used in composites and mineral filled compounds for construction, transportation, ship building and sanitary ware. Cray Valley is a subsidiary of the Total group (HQ: Tour Total, 24 Cours Michelet, F-92089 Paris-La-Defense Cedex), which recorded FRF 3.3bn of resin-related sales during 1995.
