Chen brings more than 30 years of experience within Covestro and its predecessor, Bayer, to his new role. Most recently, he served as the head of Performance Materials Operations in the Asia-Pacific region, where he oversaw significant developments, including the integration of digitalisation and advanced technologies in production.
Covestro’s Hermann Dörholt, global head of the Performance Materials business, expressed gratitude for Koch’s contributions and welcomed Chen’s appointment.

His diverse roles over the years include managing polycarbonate production in Shanghai and leading Covestro’s largest single production site globally, the Covestro Integrated Site Shanghai (CISS).
In his new role, Chen says he aims to address the evolving challenges of Europe’s chemical industry, including enhancing production reliability, efficiency, and sustainability. He also emphasises the importance of safety.
Covestro operates 48 production sites worldwide and generated sales of EUR 14.4 bn in 2023.
