German resin maker Covestro (Leverkusen; www.covestro.com) has announced the start-up of its recently completed plant in Map Ta Phut, Thailand, that makes naphthylen-diisocyanate (NDI) for the company’s Vulkollan elastomers.
The company did not disclose capacity data for the facility but noted that “the investment was in the high mid double-digit million euro range and is part of several investments of the company into cast polyurethane raw materials” including sites in China and Spain (see Plasteurope.com of 30.05.2022).
Covestro announced the construction start at the Thai site for the PU prepolymer production in November 2020.
“We believe in the growth of the cast elastomers market and want to meet the increasing demand,” said Sucheta Govil, Covestro’s chief commercial officer. “With this new production plant, we achieve a significant improvement of our global infrastructure and strengthen our presence for high-performance elastomers in the Asia-Pacific region.”
