Austrian packaging manufacturer Coveris (Vienna; www.coveris.com) said it is investing more than EUR 8 mn in its German sites at Rohrdorf and Halle. According to the company, the move is in response to the growing demand from the medical sector for flexible packaging.

At its Rohrdorf plant, which came into operation in 2021, Coveris produces flexible packaging, some of which is ISO class 7 certified. Start-up of two new pouch lines and a so-called headerbag line is planned for October 2024. The company did not provide figures on the expected production volume.

At the beginning of next year, Coveris said it plans to put a new cast extrusion line into operation at Halle for the production of recyclable monomaterials for medical packaging.

The Austrian company is organised into three business divisions that focus on film, flexible packaging, and paper packaging. It employs a total of around 4,000 employees at 29 branches in the EMEA region, with its most recent reported turnover at around EUR 900 mn.

In April this year, Coveris announced “a multi-million pound investment” in vacuum skin packaging at its UK site in Winsford, as well as plans to acquire Polish flexible paper and film packaging maker Hadepol Flexo for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition, subject to regulatory approvals, is expected to be finalised in the middle Q2 2024.
