Acquisition of Olefinas takes packager into Latin America / Supplier to agricultural sector
US packaging producer Coveris (Chicago, Illinois; www.coveris.com) has acquired Olefinas (www.olefinas.com/index.php/en) a leading supplier of plastics to the agricultural sector with operations in Guatemala and Mexico. Coveris said the move into Latin America supports its drive to provide “a full range of packaging solutions for agricultural products.” Only six weeks ago, the US packaging announced the acquisition of Elldex (www.elldex.com), a flexible packaging company based in New Zealand.
Olefinas’ packaging solutions consist of tree bags, labels, twine and aging ribbons for the banana industry, as well as mulch and fumigation films, insect traps, modified atmospheric packaging and shrink films. The company regards itself as the pioneer of plastic packaging for bananas as well as other higher value-added products dedicated to enhancing crop yield. The company with more than 600 employees at its two locations will trade in future as Coveris-Olefinas.
