Cosmo Films (New Delhi / India; www.cosmofilms.com) wants to spend some EUR 40m to expand capacity for biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) films at one of its two plants in the Indian city of Aurangabad, Maharashtra. By 2025, the “then largest single plant in the world”, according to CEO Pankaj Poddar, with a capacity of 67,000 t/y, is to come onstream.
This will bring total capacity at the film manufacturer, which has reported significant growth in both sales and earnings during the pandemic, to 253,000 t/y.
Cosmo also mentioned plans for an early expansion in BOPET films. It also intends to commission its own 10,000 t/y masterbatch line – a company first – with production intended to support the planned steps towards more film specialities. The output is expected to largely be used in the company’s own manufacturing.
