Borouge orders EUR 100m worth of equipment for Ruwais / Single biggest contract in company history
In what it called “the biggest single contract in the company’s history”, compounding systems specialist Coperion (Stuttgart / Germany; www.coperion.com) last year signed a EUR 100m deal with Borouge (Abu Dhabi / UAE; www.borouge.com) to supply the entire materials handling systems for the third polyolefin expansion stage in Ruwais / UAE – see also Plasteurope.com of 04.06.2010. Altogether, Borouge – a joint venture between the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc, Abu Dhabi / UAE; www.adnoc.com) and Borealis (Vienna / Austria; www.borealisgroup.com) – has set aside some USD 3.7 bn for this stage of the complex.
The German company has been tasked with the procedural planning and all engineering services for the entire plant, and will also deliver machines and other components to handle, transport and warehouse materials. Altogether, Coperion is to deliver some 20km of pipes, more than 120 rotary valves, approximately 280 diverter valves as well as 220 filtres. In addition, the company also is to supply two ZSK 380 high performance extruders for PP compounding.
Once phase 3 comes on stream, Borouge’s production capacity in Ruwais will rise by 2m t/y, reaching a total of 4.5m t/y.
