German plastics and rubber processor ContiTech (Hanover; www.contitech.de) has invested around EUR 20m to expand its production site in Nyíregyháza / Hungary, in the past 18 months. Among other additions, a second rubber mixing line has been installed, as the Nyíregyháza site supplies ContiTech's other two plants in Hungary with rubber compounds.
In addition, the plant has built a production line for hoses used in heating and cooling applications in cars, as well as a new line for air bellows. Finally, the site will have a warehouse for its rubber compounding centre and a logistics centre for air springs and hose lines, which is still under construction.
The investment has already created around 200 jobs, bringing the total workforce at the plant to 500. Nyíregyháza CEO László Jókay expects further growth in the coming years, with the company also investing at its other plants in Hungary.
