CLONDALKIN
Acquisition of Van der Windt Group / Deal includes German film extruder Wentus
The Irish company Clondalkin Group PLC (Monastery Road, Clondalkin, IRL-Dublin 22) has acquired the Van der Windt Group (Postbus 22, NL-2675 ZG Honselersdijk) from N.V. Koninklijke KNP BT (Paalbergweg 2, NL-1105 AG Amsterdam). Van der Windt is primarily involved in the manufacture, trade and distribution of packaging materials for agricultural, industrial and consumer markets. The deal includes its main office and distribution centre near Rotterdam together with the German polyethylene film extruding company Wentus Kunststoff GmbH (Eugen-Diesel-Str. 12, D-37671 Höxter). Manufacturing around 35,000 t/y of film products and operating 45 extruders, Wentus supplies approximately 40% of Van der Windt's needs. 1995 turnover for Van der Windt was NLG 268m, with profit before tax of NLG 19.4m.
The acquisition represents the largest to date for the Clondalkin Group, a major manufacturer of flexible packaging, which has been pursuing a policy of expansion on both a product and geographic basis over recent years. Its other film operations are mainly based in the USA where it has five plants, although it also owns Brittas Plastics (Swiftbrook Industrial Estate, Saggart, IRL-Co. Dublin). Its turnover for 1995 was IEP 251.7m with profit before tax of IEP 18.3m.
