CLARIANT
New medical-grade ABS compounds
Clariant (Muttenz / Switzerland; www.clariant.com) said its Plastics & Coatings Healthcare Polymer Solutions division has a new family of ABS compounds that enhance the functionality of medical devices and pharmaceutical packaging without compromising on compliance with regulatory requirements. The resins are part of its “Mevopur” line of colour and additive concentrates and polymer compounds.

ABS, commonly used in the consumer and automotive industries, is also available as a medical-grade resin. Clariant is enhancing its properties with ingredients that support compliance to standards such as ISO 10993 and USP Class VI.

The improved properties for some of the Mevopur ABS materials include a reduction in the appearance of scratches or static charges. For laser welding, one new compound is transparent for laser transmitting and absorbing, and a white ABS compound allows high-contrast for laser marking.
