Specialty chemicals producer Clariant (Muttenz / Switzerland; www.clariant.com) is expanding its pigments business in China by purchasing the organic pigment business of Jiangsu Multicolor Fine Chemical (JMC, Jiangsu / China; www.xinguangchem.com) and investing in a new manufacturing plant.
Clariant said the JMC business produces pigments and pigment preparations mainly for customers in the coatings, plastics and printing ink sectors in the domestic and export markets. It has annual sales of approximately CHF 30m (EUR 25m). The new production plant will be located in Zhenjiang in the province of Jiangsu and will manufacture PV23 pigments.

The bolt-on acquisition and investment in a new plant will allow better access to customers in the region, especially in China, the company said. “It will strengthen our ability to capture the growing demand for high-performance pigments and pigment preparations in China and in other key markets in Asia,” stated Marco Cenisio, head of Clariant’s pigments business.
