Chevron Phillips Chemical (CPChem, The Woodlands, Texas; www.cpchem.com) and QatarEnergy (Doha, www.qatarenergy.qa) have awarded a contract to French engineering group Technip Energies (Paris; www.technipenergies.com) for the supply of furnaces to the ethane cracker that is part of the proposed Golden Triangle Polymers project in Texas, US (see Plasteurope.com of 23.11.2022).

Technip Energies said the award – worth more than EUR 250 mn – is in line with its early engagement with CPChem and QatarEnergy, which resulted in the selection of its proprietary ethylene technology, including the successful completion of the ethylene licence and process design package.

The 2 mn t/y cracker is to comprise seven furnaces that the French contractor said will be the largest it has ever designed.

Commenting on the contract win, Bhaskar Patel, senior vice president, sustainable fuels, chemicals and circularity at Technip Energies, said: “Utilising our extensive experience with ethylene cracker design and our latest advancements to reduce emissions will contribute to their efforts to help enable a lower carbon future.”

Patel added that CPChem has previously incorporated Technip Energies’ cracking technology at other facilities.
